How do you clean the Kamado?
Cleaning a Kamado BBQ is important to extend the life of the grill and ensure that it continues to function optimally. Here are the steps to follow to clean your Kamado:
Wait for the grill to cool down before you start cleaning.
Remove the grill grates and set them aside.
Clean the inside of the grill with a steel brush to remove excess ash and dirt. Use a soft cloth to further clean the inside of the grill. !! Never use water to clean the inside of your Kamado! You will make the dome far too wet and it will have trouble getting up to temperature afterwards!
Remove ashes from the ash tray under the grill. You can use an ash vacuum cleaner or a special ash removal tool to do this.
Use Kamado Cleaner to clean the ceramic on the outside and the side tables.
Clean the grill grids with a steel brush and mild detergent. Rinse them with water and dry thoroughly before replacing them.
Replace the grill grates and close the grill.
My Kamado contains mould or bugs, what now?
If your Kamado has been standing for a while, you may find mould or even bugs in the dome. Your first reaction is probably to clean it with water. However, this is not our advice! You quickly use too much water, causing the dome to suck it all up and stay wet. This will ultimately only cause more mould in your Kamado. For mould, it is a good idea to heat your Kamado to +/-200 °C. The mould will then disappear and you can start grilling again. We advise the same for bugs. Remove most bugs with, for instance, a dustpan and brush or an (ash) hoover and then heat the Kamado to +/-200°C.
How should I clean my cooking grids?
Below you can find in detail exactly how to clean the grill grates:
Remove the grid from the grill and let it cool down
Use a steel brush or scraper to scrape food debris and dirt off the grid
Soak the grid in warm water with a mild detergent to make it easier to loosen stubborn stains
Use a soft cloth to clean the grill and remove all residues of the cleaning agent.
Rinse the grill thoroughly with clean water and dry with a clean cloth
Place the grid back on the grill and it is ready to use again!
By following these steps regularly, you can keep your Kamado grill clean and in good condition for long-term use.
How often should I clean my Kamado?
How often you should clean your Kamado depends on a number of factors. How often and how intensively you use the BBQ. In general, it is advised to thoroughly clean your Kamado every 5-6 cooking sessions. It is also wise to clean the grill grids after every cooking session to prevent food residues and grease build-up.
If you use the Kamado more intensively, such as for longer smoking sessions, you may need to clean the grill more often. If the grill is very dirty, it may take longer to clean it.
It is very important to clean your Kamado BBQ regularly to ensure that the Kamado lasts as long as possible and can maintain its performance. If you maintain and keep cleaning the grill properly, you will be able to enjoy it for many years to come.
